One of Unity’s donees, Ryan Charles, made his professional boxing debut at York Hall, Bethnal Green on 28th April 2018. He was due to make his debut in 2017 but due to fight cancellations and people pulling out this did not happen.
Ryan has been boxing for approximately 12 years and he represented St Lucia as an amateur boxer in the 2013 World Championships and 2014 Commonwealth Games plus various other international competitions. Turning professional was always one of his goals and he commented:
“It felt so good to achieve this, my bout was scheduled for 4 rounds and was against a very experienced opponent from Hungary called Ferenc Zsalek. I won the bout on points and I was able to use my reach advantage, control the fight with my jab and land some big right hands that hurt my opponent. I was a bit disappointed that I didn’t get the knockout but it was a good tough learning fight that we will move on from and all that matters is that I got the win.“
Unity of UK St Lucian Associations wish Ryan good luck with his next fight on Saturday 30th June, at York Hall Bethnal Green and he would welcome your support.”
