Unity of UK St Lucian Associations are, thankfully, at it again with the staging of their 2018 annual Celebratory Fundraising Dance in honour of Saint Lucia’s 39th Year of Independence.
This year’s event will be held in Stratford on Saturday 24th February. For over twenty years, this very conscious, industrious, diasporic group with its well-known considerate and supportive ways, has fundraised through various means in order to assist a wide range of deserving causes in Saint Lucia.
This year the highly organised, indefatigable Felicia Hippolyte President of the Association and her team have given the nod to the Arts, Culture and Youth all in one package, and contributed to the non-profit Youth in Arts group, known among other things, for its mission to educate the country, particularly the younger generation, about the life, work and genius of the oft forgotten Walcott twin, Roderick. Youth in Arts does this mainly through the annual staging of one of Roderick Walcott’s plays, with entire casts of youth – 13 to 20+ years, as appropriate.
This year’s Unity of UK St Lucian Associations’ fundraiser features Ashanti (three-time Calypso Monarch) flying in from St Lucia and singing all his hits and more, as he entertains the always loyal crowd of patrons, many of them as expected, St Lucians resident in the UK.
Once again, Unity of UK St Lucian Associations must be commended for its thoughtfulness and generosity in continuing to assist groups and organizations here at home. If you want more information on the work of Unity, please visit their website on https://www.stluciansuk.com
